Angie is in Houston this weekend assisting her mom as she recovers from a half knee replacement. I'm not really sure whether that means that they left the other half of the knee on the operating table and sent her home partially fixed up or if that just means only half needed to be replaced. Either way...it sounds very painful and is a difficult recovery. Our good friend Mr. A had a full knee replacement 5 weeks ago but instead of replacing half...the doctors made it a whole and were kind enough to toss in some additional work. I suppose he would have preferred a half order rather than one brimming with extras. Hope you're feeling better, Mr. A. All the boys send their best, GG, and we hope you're getting better each day, too.
It's been a fun start to our "Boys Weekend". It is a beautiful Texas day and happens to only be in the upper 80's right now. This is rare and we definitely took advantage of it. We all piled into our big bed last night and both boys feel asleep next to me after reading our nighttime story. It's pretty rare for me to call it a night before midnight.....last night I stayed in place as to not wake the boys. Ok, maybe that is a weak excuse but it was 9pm and by 2am I was ready for the day. It took some effort but I made it back to sleep until 6am when Sam woke up. He is the most amazing alarm clock. Every morning, Sam has the ability to wake at 6am on the dot without any prompting.
All of us jumped up and decided it was a good time to hit the donut (some of you may prefer the more formal "doughnut" spelling but we roll old school around here with donut) store. Three OJs, a dozen variety donut holes, 2 blueberry, 2 sugar twists, 4 kolaches and we were set. After donuts we went on the morning run to Starbucks (or as Sam likes to say "StarBox" for a "grande mild in a venti cup with non-fat milk to the top"...yep...he sings it). After we were all juiced up on a mild sugar high and Daddy had his c-o-f-f-e-e (you good parents all know this song don't you...i forgot the guy who sings it, though) it was battle time on the Wii. Sam gave me a run on bowling but I squeaked it out with a strike on the final frame. I got the gold star but shared it with the boys. Luke gave me a beating on tennis and Sam thought it was funny that there were so many "Kent Faces" running around the screen. Yes, we have had some fun making mini-Miis of all of us.
Off to Lifetime Fitness at 9:50am to be there for the 10am opening of the big outdoor pool. We had a blast being the first to swim for the day. Once noon hit we had some serious decisions to make. Mom (Ang) had totally hooked us up with some killer groceries so we wouldn't have to eat out. I have a feeling she knows what's coming next and is likely very disappointed in my lack of parental control over the food options. This will likely lead to a complete and absolute rolling of her eyes and very deep and loud sigh. We had our enzymes with us and voted on Backyard Burger in Dallas. If you haven't stopped by Backyard Burger on the corner of Royal & 75 then you're missing out. Tasty eats. Still doesn't beat Keller's on Northwest Highway though. We jammed to a little Chris Tomlin while eating in the car and playing the "Name That Car" game as we overlooked the service road from the parking lot. Even at 3 1/2 years old Luke can correctly name some of the cars. We watch for them to come over the hill and onto the service road and the person to identify the car's make and model the fastest wins. Sam is super good at this and seems to have picked this interest up from me. Luke just likes to compete and has worked hard to figure out what make and models are out there.
We're rockin' and rollin' here and all of us are enjoying having our own blankets and watching our Tom & Jerry movie, "The Fast and the Furry". It doesn't get much better than this!

Our invite to the pool is still open. If you're doing Miracle Leage Bowling starting tomorrow you'll see Rashele there with Mason. I'll be across town with Claire as she brings down thunderous blows in her first karate tournament.
